Why use zope/plone?

Up to Table of Contents

Why are you using plone for your development when there are many other (better?) development environments out there, eg Ruby on Rails?
First check out the summary of plone features at http://cathnet.org/help/tutorial/plone/plonebasics. Plone is becoming well placed to take it's place in the semantic web as a semantic portal, but also as a ground breaker, see http://extranet.sixfeetup.com/~calvin/PloneConf2006/2006PloneConfRDFTalk.html. We have already completed much useful work in plone. Plone lends itself to RSS, and XML porting of content very well. Which means we can export our content as XML and import it elsewhere. So if a better tool does eventually come along migration should be easy - a bit (lot?) of XSLT and away we go. Ruby isn't close to that yet, and PHP/MySQL is already left behind. All comments welcome. :)
