Sprints

by Rob Zaar last modified 2007-03-09 15:29

We host one annual and occasional sprints. A sprint is a when cathnet members get together to pray and code. It usually goes for about 3 days. Other non-physically present members can be part of the action as well.

The cathnet community has adopted the sprint meeting from the plone community. Here is a snippet from the plone website about sprints
"

Sprinting Explained

For the development of Zope 3, Tres Seaver at ZC launched a concept called "sprints", based on ideas from the extreme programming (XP) community. A sprint is a three to five day focused development session, in which developers pair in a room and focus on building a particular subsystem.

This model has worked well for the initial Plone sprints. We'd like to open the sprinting to include members of the Plone community. This helps accomplish the goal of getting Plone developed. Additionally, though, this establishes leadership in the community by sharing development approaches, intense sessions of focused communication on a topic, and explaining in person the Plone development model." here is the webpage itself.

Sprints have been a valuable way cathnet has been built over the years. Cathnet is developed in the spare time of it's members. A sprint allows us to get together and have a focussed development time. We also pray and go to Mass each day. It is a bit of 'Catholic Geek Heaven' on earth. We use up some of our holiday time to sprint.

All are welcome at our next sprint.
