Cathnet allows you to create your own homepage, website, project and research the Catholic Semantic web or share your own research.

HOMEPAGE

Cathnet hosts the website myauscath.info. This website allows you to join and create your own homepage. It is specifically designed for personal homepages and share resources/information with others. Everything is created through-the-web. We can also duplicate a current 'look and feel' of a website and import content into onto our server. An URL can be pointed to any part of your site. By joining the cathnet website, you could make this your homepage, but that is not the intention for this site. If you join, your folder on this website is to begin your own projects, or contribute to the projects on cathnet.org. Create your own homepage on myauscath.info.

Example: buiductien.org or myauscath.info/Members/frjoe

After about an hour of tuition on how to use myauscath.info, Fr. Joe was able to create his own homepage. He then uploaded some of his books. Myauscath.info was easily able to handle his vietnamese and even already had a Vietnamese translation of site features (plone is multi-lingual). He wanted his own web address - no problem! We pointed his URL straight to his homepage. It took about a day for the DNS entries to update. He had been waiting five years to create his own homepage. He was up and running in a bit over a day and can change almost anything he likes with his site, when he likes. He is one happy customer. :)

WEBSITE

One of the 'objects' which can be added to a homepage is a 'miniportal' this acts as a root of an autonomous website. This means you can create your own websites with many features. You can also give permission to other members to work on/ develop your website. This is an easy way for an organisation to have it's own web presence. The organisation can change what they want, when they want and we'll take care of the rest.
If a website is for a formal association or public entity, then it can easily me shifted onto auscath.info and be an official part of our Australian web presence. If anyone wishes to duplicate auscath.info in another country, then please contact us.
If a website has specific requirements then it can be setup as a stand alone site.

Example: opencatechesis.org

opencatechesis.org

opencatechesis.org has been a dream of Robert Zaar's for over ten years. The dream was to create shareable, printable and commentable online catechetical resources that would operate the same way as opensource projects. Robert was able to develop a new product, sharebook based on other plone products but with a particular functionality. The site is now operational and he is spending more time developing the resources on the site and using them. He hopes many others will get involved and contribute to providing free quality catechetical resources for the new evangelisation.

PROJECT

Projects include complete standalone software like jerome, to add on products. Cathnet has all the tools needed to project manage, from it's svn repository to easily adding a new project to the cathnet website and releasing the product.

Example: Sharebook

Cathnet primarily uses plone. There are good reasons why plone isused. Sharebook was created by Robert Zaar to provide the functionality he desired on his website opencatechesis.org. It is released on this website and will soon be released back into the opensource community.

RESEARCH

Cathnet seeks to foster research into helping the Catholic Church utilise the internet to it's full potential. We also seek to offer scholarships to accelerate and advocate needed research.

Example: Catholic Semantic Web

semantic web image

Cathnet seeks to bring about the Catholic Semantic Web. The internet is gradually developing into the Semantic Web, an internet that can comprehend and respond to human text/speech. We want to help develop the corresponding Catholic components to ensure the gospel is present in all it's glory. In fact the semantic web and its tools offers profoundly powerful theological tools for discovering the height, breath and depth of God's love through the documents of the Church. Find out more...
